Here and There

I've been really, really trying to get to the end of the first draft of the new manuscript -- to that end I've been ignoring most of my usual Internet haunts.  But I just wanted to share with you a link to a site that I'm really excited about.  The wonderful Larramie Fg has asked me to join The Divining Wand.  Larramie acts as Fairy Godmother to a group of authors far more accomplished than I, spreading the "book Love" so to speak -- keeping readers updated on new books, new happenings, writing advice etc.  While I hardly consider myself to be in a place of expert with only one published manuscript to show for my years of labor, Larramie has graciously extended her wand in my direction and I couldn't be more thrilled-- so please-- take a look at her site -- it's chock full of interesting tidbits.  http://thediviningwand.com  You'll get hooked!

The BIG READ

In the past few days I logged a lot of hours in a train and in a car -- what better way than to pass the time with a pile of books?

What follows are the results of my "Big Read"....

Something Red -- Jennifer Gilmore:  it's 1979 -- (the year I graduated from high school) -- and Gilmore tells the tale of the Goldstein family in a most authentic and riveting way
Kitchen Chinese-- Ann Mah:  delightful culture clash with a twist- quick read
Americans in Space -- Mary E. Mitchell: grieving widow raises 14 year old and toddler while coping or rather, not coping
The Infinities -- John Banville: Amazing prose-- inventive-- breaks new ground on old themes
My Before and After Life-- Risa Miller: sisters deal with their father's move to Israel and sudden conversion
Love or Something Like It -- Deirdre Shaw: a novel of displacement-- the first two chapters are stunning

What's next?  The Irresistible Henry House by Lisa Grunwald -- I'm rubbing my palms together in anticipation of this one - I cannot wait to begin!

What's on your pile?
